WHAT IS SMOKEFREE?


Since Fall 1995, this unique free program has been successfully helping women to stop smoking and to build the skills to handle day-to-day stress without cigarettes.

Smokefree, designed by women for women, was recently recognized as an innovative health innitiative by the prestigious New England Public Health Association which highlighted the stop smoking program at its annual regional conference.



HOW DOES SMOKEFREE WORK?


Smokefree programs are held in the Spring and Fall at sites in Bridgeport, Fairfield and Stratford.

Over 12 sessions, a team of friendly and supportive female health professionals guide program participants through the diffucult process to stop smoking. Each site team is comprised of a stop smoking trainer, facilitator, dietician, and clinical social worker - all certified professionals - who lend guidance and support.

Sharing the encouragement of other women in their group, program participants learn to:

  • Stop Smoking
  • Eat a Healthy Diet
  • Limit Weight Gain
  • Increase Physical Activity
  • Cope with Day-to-Day Stress Without Cigarettes


YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS FREE PROGRAM IF YOU ARE:

  • A Woman Who Smokes
  • A Resident of Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford or Another Community in the Greater Bridgeport Region

It's easy to learn more about the program. Eaither mail in the application, send email to RYASAP, or call to make an appointment for an interview.

Up to 25 women are selected for each program. Preference is given to women who show a strong desire to quit, and the ability to commit to a 12-session program.
